Cell Phone / Device Policy

CELL PHONE AND ELECTRONIC DEVICES

 

 

All students are to follow the RUSD Acceptable Use Policy. Here at Giano, your personal device (e.g., cell phone and ear buds) MAY NOT BE USED DURING CLASS TIME, INCLUDING WHEN GOING TO OR FROM THE RESTROOM. Cell phones must always be on silent mode and put away prior to entering any classroom or P.E. locker rooms.
 
During nutrition and lunch, CELL PHONES MUST REMAIN ON SILENT MODE AND CANNOT BE USED TO:
  • Take pictures or video of others without consent
  • Use social media to bully, intimidate, or harass
  • Access inappropriate content
  • Make phone calls
 
 
Examples of Acceptable Use
  • Playing video games with your friends before school starts
  • Checking your social media during breaks
  • Listening to music using your ear buds during breaks
  • Texting your parents after school to tell them that you’re staying for tutoring help
 
 
Examples of Misuse              
  • Messaging your friends during class
  • Wearing your earbuds during class
  • Using social media to embarrass another student or adult
  • Looking up an inappropriate website
  • Answering a phone call between classes
 
CONSEQUENCES FOR MISUSE OF CELL PHONES/DEVICES
  • First Time: Warning
  • Second Time: Cell phone is confiscated, returned after school, and parent/guardian is notified
  • Third Time: Cell phone is confiscated, returned to parent/guardian
  • Fourth and Subsequent Times: Cell phone is confiscated, returned to parent/guardian, and a major referral is given.
 
Cell phones may be picked up in SSC office after school.
 
Neither the school nor its employees are responsible for lost, stolen, or damaged electronic devices, including cellular phones. Students and families assume the risks of such devices being brought to school.
